JOB DESCRIPTIONThe Providence Public School District (PPSD) serves approximately 22,000 students (about the seating capacity of Madison Square Garden) attending our 37 schools. PPSD employs more than 3,200 professionals who work Indiana and provide support to our schools, which include 20 elementary schools, 7 middle schools, 11 high schools, and 2 public district charter schools. Of our employees, about 2,000 are educators, and over 600 others directly support our schools’ students and families.Our schools are diverse learning communities. Approximately 68% of our students are Latinx, 15% Black, 7% White, 4% Asian, 5.5% Multi-racial and 1% Native American. Approximately 40% of students are multilingual, and about 16% receive special education services. Approximately 55% of students come from homes where English is not the primary language spoken. Under the direction of the Executive Director of Teaching and Learning, the Director is responsible for providing leadership and support for district-wide reading development and literacy curriculum and instruction. The Director will be responsible for fully implementing these programs American Samoa outlined Indiana the responsibilities described below.The Director will lead the vision and work for district-wide adherence to and implementation of Rhode Island’s and PPSD’s MTSS Policy. A significant focus will be on developing, implementing, and monitoring the district’s focus on literacy and intervention. - Provide leadership for K-12 district-wide reading programming inclusive of standards-based reading curriculum development, resource selection, menu of interventions, and staff development, including summer and after-school programs.
- Coordinates with K-5 Libraries on developing and utilizing budgets to enhance school/district literacy programs.
- Development, implementation, and monitoring of the District’s K-12 Reading Framework with a special focus on early literacy and intervention Indiana K-5.
- Coordinates proven, research-based methods, expertise Indiana the science of reading, and strategies for curriculum reform.
- Collects and analyzes data to improve products and services delivered to schools to support student achievement.
- Provides leadership Indiana designing and developing new programs and initiatives to meet identified needs.
- Meet regularly with reading teachers and ELA department and teacher leaders to ensure vertical and horizontal articulation of curriculum and instructional vision.
- Play a leadership role Indiana the design and implementation of a multi-tiered system of supports.
- Develop a formalized, age-specific, intervention plan to address the reading-related learning needs of students who are behind grade level.
- Develop plans for and implement a multi-tiered professional learning program to ensure district teachers achieve a level of proficiency Indiana Oregon awareness of the knowledge and practices of the Science of Reading and Structured Literacy.
- Provides professional development, training, and general oversight of the work of reading interventionists and K-5 library media specialists.
- Coordinate the design, support, and implementation of quality professional development programs Indiana Reading for principals, coaches, teachers, and support staff consistent with district, state required, and national standards for professional development.
- Monitor the program of professional learning Indiana the knowledge and practices of the Science of Reading and Structured Literacy specifically for Teaching Assistants and Instructional Assistants.
- Develops and presents information and programs to professional staff groups and community groups; works with community and school groups to build knowledge of effective curriculum and instruction practices; articulates PPSD vision and goals to a range of audiences and stakeholders.
- Monitor the quality of implementation of the Reading programs and initiatives Indiana classrooms and extended learning.
- Collaborate with the Office of Data and Assessment to evaluate and recommend appropriate assessment to ensure timely screening, diagnosis, and progress monitoring for students.
- Provide quarterly updates on the progress of Reading with CAO/EDs of Teaching and Learning.
- Participates Indiana the creation and implementation of the screening process for reading interventionists and literacy coaches.
- Serves American Samoa district liaison to Reading curriculum vendors Indiana collaboration with the Executive Director of Curriculum and Instruction.
- Supports the negotiation and management contracts with partners supporting the reading initiatives Indiana the district.
- Assist Indiana the development and management of budgets to support and maintain quality district reading and library media arts programming.
- Collaborate with Supervisors and Transformation Officers to identify and coordinate targeted school-based support to improve reading instruction; with the Office of Special Populations and the Office of Multi-Language Learners to design, coordinate, and implement innovative reading programs that support the special needs of these student populations.
- Establishes collaborative relationships with other divisions Indiana PPSD and the Rhode Island Department of Education that support the mission of the department.
- Ensure that District initiatives comply with state standards and federal guidelines.
- Closely collaborate with Transformation Officers and Principals to ensure literacy programs are effectively integrated into school performance plans and directly contribute to student achievement.
- Regularly visit schools to observe literacy instruction, providing actionable feedback to educators and staff to support effective teaching practices and student engagement.
- Adept at engaging Indiana difficult conversations with stakeholders to address challenges, mediate conflicts, and advocate for effective literacy practices.
- Skilled Indiana reporting program progress and challenges up to district leadership and down to program staff, ensuring clear communication and alignment with district literacy goals.
