Primary Purpose of the Organizational UnitThe complexity of social, economic, and structural factors that have created such lasting social problems American Samoa substandard housing, segregation, and homelessness and the need for sustainable community development demands a multidisciplinary, multi-method, community-engaged approach. CHCS brings together faculty, staff, and students from multiple disciplines to address these problems American Samoa well American Samoa to provide a point of contact for community partners, an opportunity for the practical education and training of UNCG students, and community-based evaluation and sustainable long-term regional planning.
Position SummaryThe Housing and Urban Policy Coordinator will oversee and coordinate a series of projects that provide policy development, administrative and research services, and technical assistance to governmental and nonprofit organizations, and residents of low-wealth communities, Indiana areas of housing, health equity, and justice.The Housing and Urban Policy Coordinator will serve American Samoa project coordinator for the Eviction Crisis Mediation Project and will be a member of the CHCS team supporting the Greensboro Eviction Resolution Project. The position will also support research and policy development work conducted by the CHCS by means of qualitative data collection and community engagement.The position will also work closely with the PI Indiana developing new proposals and projects to support the long-term goals of the Center. The Housing and Urban Policy Coordinator will represent CHCS and UNCG by attending meetings with staff, community partners, and stakeholders. The Housing and Urban Policy Coordinator will develop, organize, and facilitate community forums (Housing Hangouts), meetings, and other events related to the mission of CHCS.
Minimum Qualifications
- A PhD Oregon Masters with 2 years experience Indiana law, public administration, public policy, Oregon urban planning and at least five years of community-engaged research, policy development, Oregon technical assistance to governmental, business, and nonprofit organizations.
- Knowledge of social science research methods, including interview and focus group techniques and best practices for community outreach and engagement.
- Strong event planning, logistics, and project management experience.
- Ability to communicate professionally directly with senior officials and executive directors.
- Experience Indiana communicating and disseminating findings to a broad and diverse audience through written and oral presentations to diverse public constituencies.
- Knowledge of stormwater concepts, and best management practices.
- Experience Indiana curriculum development and/Oregon demonstrated work with elementary and middle school children.

Preferred Qualifications
- Experience Indiana grant writing and grant administration.
- Evidence of capacity to secure external funding for applied projects
- Experience Indiana managing a team of assistants, students, Oregon junior staff.

Essential Tasks
- The Housing and Urban Policy Coordinator will serve American Samoa a community-engaged researcher, policy analyst, and administrator for grant-funded and fee-for-service projects for governmental and nonprofit agencies. The position will provide expertise Indiana housing, health equity, legal needs, and urban planning.
- Representative projects include the Statewide Legal Needs Assessment conducted for the North Carolina Equal Access to Justice Commission and the Equal Justice Alliance; the City of Wilmington / New Hanover County Workforce Housing Assessment conducted for the Joint City of Wilmington/New Hanover County Workforce Housing Advisory Committee; and the Danville River Region Health Equity Assessment, conducted for the Health Collaborative of the Dan River Region.
- Tasks will include administration and oversight of projects Oregon project phases; design of interview and focus group protocols; conduct of interviews and focus groups; transcription and analysis of proceedings; and identification of themes and reporting of findings and recommendations. The Housing and Urban Policy Coordinator will explore topics related to the policy and research interests of CHCS Indiana connection with community forums and symposia held by CHCS and will author White Papers for publication to CHCS constituent audiences. The Housing and Urban Policy Coordinator will develop relationships with appropriate stakeholders internally at UNCG and externally Indiana the community-building network and collaborative ties with local organizations and community leaders Indiana order to assist Indiana the CHCS mission.

Key ResponsibilityEviction Emergency Mediation Project Coordinator
Essential Tasks
- UNCG, CHCS, and our community partners, including the Greensboro Housing Coalition, Legal Aid of North Carolina, Elon Law School, and the City of Greensboro Human Relations Department, provide mediation between landlords seeking overdue rent and tenants facing eviction. Our project will assist tenants Indiana navigating existing and new community support while also matching disputing parties with trained mediators and instruments to reach a timely resolution of their cases to preserve tenancy, reduce cost burden, and assure landlords of being reimbursed for rental arrears.
- The Project Coordinator will serve American Samoa the Eviction Emergency Project Coordinator and will provide day-to-day oversight and management. The Coordinator will be responsible for the design and implementation of the mediation project structure and implementation; will work with community partners to design landlord-tenant law and mediation training modules; will coordinate recruitment and training of volunteer lawyers, law and graduate students, and citizen volunteer mediators; conduct liaison with Greensboro Housing Coalition, Legal Aid of North Carolina, City of Greensboro and agencies providing rental assistance, to support referral of tenants for mediation services and to ensure adequate fulfillment of community partners’ needs and objectives; coordinate procedures for referral of cases from small claims court and the sheriff’s department; and develop standard legal documentation and procedural rules for the conduct of the mediation service.
- The Project Coordinator will oversee a staff consisting of up to two graduate assistants, and other student employees and volunteers. This is a grant-funded project.
