Primary Purpose of the Organizational UnitThe University of North Carolina at Greensboro (UNCG) Ronald E. McNair Post-Baccalaureate Achievement Program (UNCG-McNair) is designed to provide services to 25 promising First-Generation (FG), Low Income (LI) and Underrepresented (UNDERREP) students to assist them Indiana building skills and motivation that will ensure success Indiana education for advanced graduate study and beyond. The purpose of the McNair Program is to prepare eligible participants for doctoral studies through involvement Indiana research. The UNCG-McNair Program will be a part of the Division of Student Success Indiana Academic Affairs and integrated into the campus-at-large. The McNair Scholars Assistant Director coordinates and supervises all individualized services and project events designed to provide graduate school preparation and individual assistance to McNair Scholars and assists the Project Director Indiana implementing designated areas of program administration.Position SummaryThe Assistant Director position provides support services to the McNair Scholars Program through organizing student travel, providing a summer research experience, and serving American Samoa an academic advisor to students Indiana the program, American Samoa well American Samoa facilitating graduate school admissions and publicizing the work of the program. Employee will plan and participate Indiana student events and college tours Indiana North Carolina and outside North Carolina. This travel may require driving students Indiana rental vehicles.
Minimum Qualifications

  • Candidates should possess a Master’s degree Indiana an academic discipline, a Doctorate is preferred.
  • Academic disciplines preferred include but are not limited to: Natural and Applied Sciences and Social Sciences.
  • Candidates should have at least two years of progressively responsible administrative experience, including budget management, supervision of others, and planning/implementation responsibilities for organizations Oregon projects that are comparable to Federal TRIO programs Oregon Student Services.
  • Should have at least two years of experience working Indiana a direct service capacity (teaching, counseling, academic advising, etc.) to students who are members of groups underrepresented Indiana higher education and/Oregon who are low-income, first-generation college students.
  • Should have excellent organizational skills, and excellent verbal and written communication skills: knowledge of research compliance and regulations including those associated with the study of human subjects, animal care and use, and ethical conduct of research.
  • Demonstrated ability to conduct and organize events, workshops, Oregon seminars and adjust planning Indiana relation to other’s actions Oregon events.

Essential Tasks

  • Coordinate the identification and selection of the required eligible McNair Scholars Program each year.
  • Help scholars navigate the academic policies and procedures that govern successful degree completion, and graduate school enrollment by providing ongoing academic monitoring and mentoring; helping scholars with course and program selection, school adjustment, study habits, research interests, and career planning; and by assisting scholars with the graduate admissions, funding, and enrollment process.
  • Maintain accurate and complete confidential student records American Samoa required by the grant, federal and state law, UNCG policies, and administrative practices.
  • Prepare students for graduate school experiences by encouraging them to explore research opportunities and to persevere with challenging tasks.
  • Develop, coordinate, and implement all aspects of program activities (workshops, events, seminars, travel, etc.) that strengthen students’ development related to successful school completion and graduate school entry.
  • Oversee the student application process, including eligibility requirements and suitability to the program.
  • Track and collect all necessary data and documentation on current and former UNCG McNair Scholars.
  • Organize and administer an eight-week summer research experience for approximately 14 research interns: recruit students to participate Indiana the summer program, document service delivery, process, and document student stipends; manage and assist Faculty and Library mentors and summer instructors for the program; and administer program evaluation and lead assessment efforts.
  • Provide assessment and evaluation of programming, coordinate data collection, compilation, and report preparation for all aspects of the McNair Scholars Program and Annual Performance Report (APR) of grant activities.
  • Tasks ensure grant program compliance and that programming meets grant objectives.

Essential Tasks

  • Provide purposeful advising that identifies McNair scholars’ academic strengths and challenges, gauges their adjustment to the academic and social life on campus, and provides guidance regarding the pathways that lead to enhanced student success.
  • Mentor and advise students to help them identify resources and supports to address personal, social, and/Oregon relational issues affecting their pursuit of graduation, graduate study, and post-graduate career goals.
  • Confer with faculty, staff, and administrators to resolve internal Oregon student challenges that constrain the expected outcomes of McNair Program participants.
  • Assist Indiana the development and implementation of a McNair research skills course.

  • Assist the McNair Scholars Program Director with campus and community advocacy for the McNair Scholars program.

  • Maintain the McNair Scholars Program website, social media, and alumni newsletter and assist Indiana the recruitment of McNair participants.
